ALPENA — Arts, education and human services programs are just some of the areas touched by the most recent round of grants from the Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council. The Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan Board of Trustees recently approved $28,011 in a new round of youth-related NEMYAC grants covering a four-county area that includes Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle counties.

New NEMYAC Grants are:

¯ Solid Rock/Matrix Youth Ministries received $2,000 to support the BLAST (Building Lives Around Sound Truth) project;

¯ Rayola Inc. received $2,000 to support the Comfort Items for Foster Care project;

¯ Alpena & Presque Isle Child Abuse and Neglect Team received $2,500 to support the Baby Pantry Warm Winter project;

¯ Alpena Childcare & Development Center received $1,875 to support the Multipurpose Room Noise Reduction Panels project;

¯ Alpena Childcare & Development Center received $1,250 to support the ACDC Outdoor Learning Classroom;

¯ Alpena Gymnastics, Inc. received $1,141 to support the purchase of Safety Landing Mats;

¯ Alpena Huron Shore Babe Ruth received $2,230 to support the Practice Sliding Mats and Bases project;

¯ Boys and Girls Club of Alpena received $1,687 to support the Youth Adopting Families project;

¯ Friends of Plaza Pool received $1,000 to support the planned mural at Alpena Plaza Pool;

¯ Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan received $2,500 to support the Family Support Program 2021 project;

¯ Hillman Community Schools received $1,250 to support the “Greenhouse Garden Gone Wild” project;

¯ Hillman Community Schools received $500 to support the Hillman Travel Abroad Exploration;

¯ PoWeR! Book Bags received $1,125 to support the PoWeR! Book Bags project in Lewiston Schools;

¯ Great Start Collaborative received $750 to support the Great Start Collaborative Preschool Scholarship/Education program;

¯ Posen Consolidated Schools received $2,403 to support the “Making High School Anatomy Accessible to ALL Students” project;

¯ Presque Isle District Library received $1,800 to support the “Improving Theater Programming with Concession Stand Profits” project; and

¯ St. John Lutheran School received $2,000 to support the “Let’s Grow!” project.

The next opportunity for grants is through the CFNEM Community Impact Grant and the next cycle of the NEMYAC Grant. Applications for both grant opportunities are due on January 15, 2022 and can be found at cfnem.org.

The Northeast Michigan Youth Advisory Council is made up of youth from across the CFNEM service area. These young people learn the importance of philanthropy and community service through the grantmaking process, gaining important leadership skills along the way. NEMYAC Grants are made possible through the Kellogg Youth Fund at the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan, and the McLean Fund for Rogers City.
